This famous Mexican saying is very often used in Mexico and is even more valid now, in this difficult period for tourism.
After the worldwide financial crisis, Mexico continued to be hit even harder in May. Our beautiful country was in the spotlight for another reason: the new flu virus had its first outbreak in Mexico. The word in the international press was out and had an overwhelming effect, causing a worldwide panic. Result: tourism, the second largest industry in Mexico, collapsed in the whole country. Just at the Caribean coast alone, more than 20 hotel resorts have been closed, leaving thousands and thousands of employees without work and income even though we had very few cases in this part of Mexico.
Today we know that the virus, which was presented as a dangerous killer virus in the beginning, is not half as dangerous as mentioned and, with the present anti flu medication, easy to control. From each flu virus which exists in the world there are yearly more victims than from this new virus.
The Mexican government has done everything to keep the outbreak to a minimum. With succes, for the past weeks the numbers of flu cases have gone down, while in a lot of other countries more cases every day have been reported. But the damage has been done and Mexico is still avoided by international tourists.
Today Mexico is as safe as any other country for holidays.
So on behalf of thousand and thousands of our collegues we invite you to come to Mexico and experience the beauty of this country and find out for yourself that "MI CASA ES TU CASA" still stands for all of you today !!
