Kohunlich at 180 kilometers is especially famous for its
beautifull Temple of Masks.
The masks recall the sun god Kinich Ahau, but were not meant as straight representations
but portraits of the cities rulers.
Kohunlich is named after the cohune palm & was first reported in 1912
but only excavated in the 60s.
The site was inhabited hroughout the Classic period, A.D. 250-900.
