Laguna Bacalar
Laguna Bacalar is also known as the "lake of seven colors" for its incredible
variety of blue shadows. The lake is 50 kilometers
long and 2 kilometers wide in a beautiful setting of Mangrove forests. A
perfect place to spend a day swimming, windsurfing, canoeing, waterskiing,
rowing or bird watching. Along the lake side
you will find a lot of little restaurants where you can enjoy local dishes.
Cenote Azul
Some 5 kilometers after passing Bacalar direction Chetumal you will see signs
indicating Cenote Azul. A beautiful deep water cavern, its supposedly 150
meters deep in the middle. The water is very clear, and its a good alternative
for diving if the Carribean sea is too rough. There is a good open air restaurant
on the side, where you will have a beautiful view over the Cenote, and admire
all adults as well as kids who jump from the roof of the restaurant into the
crystal clear water.
Mayan Zipline Canopy Tour
Another adventurous way to discover the spectacular beauty of the lake of
7 colors. You will "fly" some 35 meters above the tree tops and
the lake, covering distances that range from 165 to 825 yards. Sometimes even
Macaws are flying with you !
Other tours
There are several tour operators organizing kayak, bicicle and jungle walks
around Bacalar.
Combine visit to Lake Bacalar or Cenote Azul with a visit to the Mayan temples of Chacchoben. A perfect day trip !
