COSTA MAYA
CHINCHORRO REEF

Costa Maya is also known for its diving at the world famous Chinchorro Reefs, 30 kilometers off-shore in front of Maya Luna.

Chinchorro is often referred to as “the last unspoiled Caribbean reef”. During many boat trips dolphins are spotted. So, the hotel has a divers and snorkeling paradise just in front of it.

The reef is populated by myriad corals, sponges, conch, anemones and around 500 different species of fish. Turtles nest year after year on area beaches.

There are three mangrove cays at Chinchorro: Cayo Norte, Cayo Sur and Cayo Centro. Fisherman stay in wooden poll houses at Cayo Centro.

Recently Chinchorro Bank has been declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
